Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Information Page
What are these tests?
These tests measure how well students understand grade level content. Students in grades 3, 4, and 6 take these assessments in Reading and Math. Students in grade 5 will take these assessments in Reading, Math, and Science.
More information about the SOL can be found on the FCPS SOL page.
When will my child take these tests?
How will the scores be used?
Students' scores on the SOL are used to help us make school-wide decisions as we plan for the next school year.
Additionally, the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) compares students’ growth over the year to determine if the school has met standards for accreditation from the state.
How will I find out my child’s scores?
SOL scores are posted to ParentVUE/Parent SIS in the summer. Letters with scores will be mailed to parents who did not have a ParentVUE/Parent SIS account.
What happens if my child doesn’t pass these tests?
The SOL reports a fail, pass proficient, or pass advanced score. Regardless of how your child scores, they will progress to the next grade. There is no penalty for children for not passing these tests.
If a child does not pass the SOL with a score between 375-399, they are eligible to retake the test. Parents must provide consent for retakes.
